Why not get to know him better as friends. You will find as you go through school, that friendship is a great way to get to know guys better - the real them. There will be relationships you'll have that are great friendships but nothing more. Instead of assuming you need to jump into a bf/gf relationship, slow down, get to know him. If you want to ask him to the dance as friends do it - but go easy on the flirting.
