On the One Hand: Is it unpatriotic of me not to say the pledge? Does my refusal to say it make me ungrateful to live in this country? Does it make me "un-American"? On the Other: Is it wrong that children are practically brainwashed to say words they don't know the meaning of? Is it just as unpatriotic to say the pledge in a monotone voice without meaning as it is not not say it at all? Is it in any way disturbing that in many schools across America children are asked to rise, face a specific object, put a specific hand over their hearts, and declare their allegiance to their country? Is it wrong that people who choose not to say the pledge are labeled as unpatriotic and a traitor? Just some questions mixed with a little bit of ranting. I'm serious about the first questions though. Am I unpatriotic/a traitor because I refuse to say the pledge?
