ra salvatore is probably the best fantasy author out there that is still alive. i know i talk about him a lot, but he's just really good. the way he writes just gets me hooked like no other book really does. i enjoy it from cover to cover every time. anyways, the dark elf trilogy... i got them for christmas, and it's my first time reading it. it shows how drizzt do'urden (the main character of salvatore's books) was born, trained, and exiled in his homeland. raised as a drow, the black skinned elves of the underdark, and trained to be the greatest weapon's master of his race. it shows his hatred towards his race because of how evil they are, and how he found his way to live with the dwarves. if you are interested in reading this, i'd suggest reading the icewind dale trilogy first, and then this directly after. it makes more sense when you read about the characters in the first books that were published, and then going more in to depth in the legend of drizzt in the dark elf trilogy.
