"I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations," Shanon said. He's clearly an atheist, or not a Jew (religiously speaking) anyway. He probably thought of the idea, while on drugs. By the way, the drug he's talking about is Ayahuesca, the "vine of the souls".
