Ok, sorry ya'll but I have some questions about different things in Christian music. They sorta came up ever since my family got the Gospel Music Channel, which is really cool btw. Don't worry, none of the questions are terribly serious and hopefully they won't cause any debate. They are just questions. lol. First question being: I just listened to the group Skillet for the first time, I heard the song "Rebirthing" and I love it! I that the orchestra in the background is awesome! Totally my kind of music, it was a bit like symphonic metal. Well I was just wondering if Skillet ever has the lady, I think her name is Korey Cooper, sing the lead in any of their songs, I would really like to hear it if they do. My second question: Can anyone recommend any female fronted, Christian, Rock/Metal bands to me? I absolutely love stuff like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica and Evanescence but I can't find anything in the Christian music world that is similar to any of them. I found a group on myspace and they are AWESOME, they are Christian Symphonic Metal, I totally love their music but they don't have a record deal of anykind so that = no cd which in turn = me sitting at my computer listening to them on myspace. Here's a link for them: http://www.myspace.com/whisperfromheaven I totally recommend them. Sorry for the long message and thanks to anyone who can help me with my questions! ^_^ -Jade

I love Skillet though! Awesome band! Second question: Try the band Superchic[k] They have mostly (if not all) female vocals and I would consider them to be a Christian rock band. Here is a link for their website: http://www.superchickonline.com/ Check out this link too: http://shop.fye.com/product.aspx?sku=63970758&loc=50244 If you click on "Listen Now" after you click on the link(scroll the screen down) you can listen to clips from their album "Beauty From Pain." "Anthem," "Pure," and "Bowling Ball" are my favorite songs on the album and "Anthem" would have to be one of their harder songs on the album. Hope you enjoy them! horsechic1990 P.S. Btw, that band from myspace you suggested was AWESOME!!! Great band! Thanks for sharing!
well, you're going to have to listen to more of skillet lol... all their new stuff is amazing.... she never really "sings lead" simply because i think her husband (the lead singer) is probably better suited for the job... but on "The Last Night," she splits the verses with John
My second question: Can anyone recommend any female fronted, Christian, Rock/Metal bands to me?
there really dont seem to be too many... um, FireFlight has a girl singer... Flyleaf does... Paramore does.. that's really all i know also, if you like some good rock/metal with great orchestra work, check out Red

If you ever come across anymore then go ahead and drop me a message if you have the time! :) OH! horsechic1990 I'm really glad you liked the band on myspace, I just got an email back from them and they are working on getting a cd together but two of the members are getting married soon so it may be little while. slechtvalk has been noted by some of the more renowned metal reviewers to have one of the greatest female vocalists in a metal band. they're good if you like some folk metal. i also know her, and she's quite nice. there is also royal anguish who is a little more gothic death metal. thorr's hammer is a little less well known, but still not bad. some of these bands might be a little less mild than bands like nightwish, since they include some more extreme metal elements. like they sometimes break into breakneck speeds with the drums, the growls from the male vocalists go extremely low or high, or just whatever. i'm not sure totally if these bands do that, i forget. that stuff doesn't stand out to me because it's normal, but i think slechtvalk has a few songs where they play pretty fast and royal anguish growls a lot. they're still worth checking out. if you enjoy them i can recommend some good folk, death, black, or thrash metal bands you might be interested in. some less extreme than others.

Korey Cooper has more vocal duties on the Alien Youth album. Particularly on Will You Be There, but it's still pretty much backup. However, I'm pretty sure she sings some lead on Skillet's live "Ardent Worship" record. It's by far the worst of their CD's, but if you really want to hear Korey...

Jade - Have you tried writing the band you mentioned? Just because they don't have a record deal doesn't mean they don't have a CD. If you were able to hear their music, they've obviously been in a studio at some point. There's a great many local and independent musicians that end up paying to print their own first CD (or 2nd or fourth). For that matter, there's a growing number of more popular artists that won't sign with a label anyway, just because of the standard contract restrictions if they do. If they have a CD, I'm sure they'd love to send you one, and they might even eat the cost of shipping just to get fans in other States (depends on the band, of course).
