Women In Leadership?

Well... I figured it was inevitable... Should women be allowed to lead in the church? Is there gender specific roles in the church?

I believe that it is perfectly fine for there to be women in church. In fact, I believe that there would probably be trouble if a woman wasnt in some kind of authority. There are parts of leadership that men cant do well at. I believe that there should be some kind of mix because women are good at some things men arent and men are good at things that women arent. without both, there is no equilibrium. I do not necessarily have a specific verse to back up what i am saying. I'm sure i could find one if i tried. But, for now i will just leave you with my thoughts

I don't have an issue with women in a leadership position. There's no reason why one shouldn't be allowed to in a church or in any other situation. If they are better suited for a position than a man they should recieve it. They've put forth the time, effort, dedication, and hard work so they deserve to reap the benefits of their actions. The music minister at our church is a woman, and there are some people who are against it. Some people just don't like change though. However, I don't feel that there are gender specific roles. Saying some one is better suited for one job than another based on gender is going to be unfair to one party or another in the end.

I do not believe women should be allowed to be priests or deacons. This does not mean I am against Women's RIghts. Tradition and Scripture has told us that God intended that men be priests. God Bless, Louie

I guess this is my problem with many of the posts/discussions here. Where are the Scriptural supports for your opinions! "I think" doesn't count! :) Listen, what you believe regarding church/christianity is not found in your opinions, but it's God's that counts. That's why God provided us the supernatural book called the Bible. Search the Scriptures and show me in the N.T. where God gives permission for any woman to hold leadership in the church! (Leadership = Pastors/Deacons, not S.S. Teachers, childrens teachers etc)

isnt it was either 2 or 3 John that John was writing to the leader of a church who was a woman?

II John is written to the "elect lady and her children" however, she was not a church leader, but was an exhortation to a faithful family. The N.T. church was instructed to choose men (Acts 6) for deacons and men (I Timothy 3) The Scriptures are clear. Women have a great role in the ministries of the church. They can teach, sing, and have the awesome responsibility to train the younger women (Titus 2:4) however, as a role of leadership that is up to the men! If the men don't stand up, then God will find other ways to accomplish his purpose, but placing a woman in leadership would violate Scriptures and God would never do that!
...but placing a woman in leadership would violate Scriptures and God would never do that!
God put Deborah in charge of an entire nation (Jdg 4:4). Also, if a woman can prophesy, which I think we all agree that women can (if you believe in prophecy, that is :) ), I see no reason why a woman can not teach men or be pastors, as prophets are higher in the order of authority than teachers, miracle workers, etcetera (1 Corinthians 12:28).
"I think" doesn't count!
Sorry, I didn't feel like repeating myself :P . Read all of my earlier posts. Most of them have scriptures. If not, then it will probably have historical stuff.

We're talking church age. There are still today women judges! However, even in the temple it was the Levitical men who were the leadership and today, the church age, men are the ones called of God to be the leader... the same as Christ (male) is the head of the church, just as the man (male) is the head of the family. I guess you would need to define "prophecy." If you define it as proclaiming, then yes, a woman can proclaim the truth of the Gospel to anyone, they are just not permitted to hold the office of a Pastor/Deacon. If you are speaking about predicting future events, I bow out as I view it unbiblical.
