Old Movies

I've noticed there are quite a few who seem to know about old movies. Care to chat? What's your take on Musicals? Personally, I think they'll never make any movies as good as they did back then (I'm talking late 30's to mid-50's). Well, they've made a few good ones, I suppose; I guess my tastes just run to the old stuff. Cary Grant, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart ... I could go on forever. Musicals ... musicals took more time and talent than any other genre of film from a single actor. They had to be able to act, sing and dance well. To be able to pull it off convincingly had to have taken a lot of work - from actors, directors, choreographers...

My favorite song of Top Hat, though, is "Isn't it a Lovely day", and the scene before is an absolute classic with Fred driving the carriage. Ginger: "What is this magnificent power you hold over horses?" Fred: (pause) "Horsepower."

Not exactly considered an "old" movie. It was made in what, 1985?

I haven't seen that one yet (one of the few I haven't), but my favorite of theirs would have to be the King and I. Seen it? There is absolutely no one who could fit that role like Yul Brenner.

How about Fredric March's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? I haven't seen it yet but I have seen a few tidbits and it looks good.
