While on a fall color photo shoot this past week I happened upon this tranquil road, and at first questioned the legitimacy of the scene. While it wasn’t the typical fall image I was looking for (it was aspenless), there was something about the palette of soft colors complimenting the curve in the lane that held my attention. Starting to head back one last time toward the car, nearly passing up the opportunity, I suddenly thought differently, turned around and snapped off a couple of frames, thinking I might visit the image at a much later time … that is, if I had nothing else to do. Back from my trip for just one day, I find myself once again drawn back into the image. The serenity of the scene seemed to lend itself to my giving a try at creating a painterly effect. You know, there are times when you just have to go with your gut feel rather than sticking to the standard rules in photography. I did just that and experienced some personal enjoyment in the process. Who knows? I might take a stab at this again

We were hit yesterday with TWO monsoonal thunderstorms. Here is the fist microburst that pummeled our community. These violent storms have always possessed a mysterious beauty for me, especially when you contrast the clouds with a parched land

Ventured out to the local Riparian late yesterday afternoon. With the ‘BIG’ rain we had earlier in the day the humidity was really up there. Combine that with dirt paths lined with thick underbrush and pond basins on each side and it made for a stifling jaunt. With my long lens in the shop, I opted for my macro and kept my eye out for the smaller, often overlooked things that surround us. That’s when I found this dragonfly. He seemed somewhat content and let me get pretty close. I positioned myself so the background would compliment the perch. I really liked how the colors played off of each other. With my macro and my large sensor in my camera, I was able to get a nice 24×36 print from this image. Enjoy
