When you think of Jesus dying on the cross what do you think about that? Someone willing to die for you out of love knowing they did nothing wrong? It makes me think he took the death penalty for us for a crime he didn?t commit.
Jesus not only sacrificed in order for us to
be saved because of our sins but also so we could have a relationship and know
God his father.
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
He took insults,
Matthew 27: 38-40 ?Two criminals were nailed to crosses beside Jesus?one on the right and the other on the left. People walked by and shouted insults at Jesus. They shook their heads and said, ?You said you could destroy the Temple and build it again in three days. So save yourself! Come down from that cross if you really are the Son of God!?
Matthew 27:41-44 ?The leading priests, the teachers of the law, and the older Jewish leaders were also there. They made fun of Jesus the same as the other people did. They said, ?He saved others, but he can?t save himself! People say he is the king of Israel. If he is the king, he should come down now from the cross. Then we will believe in him. He trusted God. So let God save him now, if God really wants him. He himself said, ?I am the Son of God.? And in the same way,the criminals on the crosses beside Jesus also insulted him.?
he took abuse,
John 19: 1-6 ?Then Pilate took Jesus and had him
flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying,?Hail, king of the Jews!? And they slapped him in the face. Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, ?Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.? When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them,?Here is the man!?As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, ?Crucify! Crucify!? But Pilate answered, ?You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.?
and he took betrayal from those
closest to him
Luke 22: 4-6? And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.?
Luke 22: 56-62 ?Then a
servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, ?This man also was with him.? But he denied it, saying, ?Woman, I do not know him.? And a little later someone else saw him and said, ?You also are one of them.? But Peter said, ?Man, I am not.? And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying,?Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.? But Peter
said, ?Man, I do not know what you are talking about.? And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, ?Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.? And he went out and wept bitterly.?
He took on the ultimate sacrifice for
not one person but for humanity the whole world.
1 John
2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also
for the sins of the whole world.
Matthew
27:32-38 ?As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and
they forced him to carry the cross. They
came to a place called Golgotha (which means ?the place of the skull?). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed
with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up
his clothes by casting lots. And sitting
down, they kept watch over him there.
Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is
Jesus, the king of the Jews. Two
rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.?
Matthew 27:48-54 ?Immediately
one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a
staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, ?Now leave him alone.
Let?s see if Elijah comes to save him. And when Jesus had cried out again in a
loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs
broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They
came out of the tombs after Jesus? resurrection and went into the holy city and
appeared too many people. When the centurion and those with him who were
guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were
terrified, and exclaimed, ?Surely he was the Son of God!?
Would you have a relationship with
Jesus who was willing to suffer and sacrifice for you?
Matthew 16:21 "From that time on Jesus began to
explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at
the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and
that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."
John 10:17-18 "The
reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own accord. I have authority
to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from
my Father."
What if Jesus who sacrificed so much
for you wanted to help fix the broken parts of your life?
Psalm 23: 1-6 The LORD
is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name?s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.?
What about if all Jesus wanted was
for you to be blessed and loved?
Deuteronomy 28:8 ?The Lord will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that you
undertake. And he will bless you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.?
Jeremiah 31:3 ?The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love;
therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.?
What if all Jesus wanted you to have is the
best possible life for his sacrifice that was given?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,?declares the Lord, ?plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
In helping you?
Psalm 32:8 ? I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.?
In giving you all the things you need?
Philippians 4:19 ?But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ
Jesus.?
All you would have to do is follow him and
allow him to show you how to have a better life. This is who Jesus is and I
choose to follow him. It is your free will to follow him or not. Jesus doesn?t
control. He does love you and if you let him he can change your life and fill
your heart with so much love, joy and peace, it will change your life forever.
If you would like to know Jesus pray
this prayer with me. ?Dear God, I know, I?m a sinner, and I ask for your
forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your son. I believe that he died for my
sin and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my savior and follow
him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will.
I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.?
After you have prayed this prayer
begin to read the word of God and come to understand how to change from the
ways of the world. When you start to do this and follow God your life will
change.
